The town of Limbe in the South West Region witnessed an unprecedented wave of excitement and enthusiasm over the weekend as former students of Saker Baptist College (SBC) from all over the world gathered to celebrate the Diamond Jubilee (60 years) of the college and the Ruby Jubilee (40 years) of Ex-Saker Students Association (EXSSA). The ceremony was presided over by the Minister of Secondary Education, Nalova Lyonga. She was representing the Prime Minister, Head of Government during activities that took place from February 17-19 at the school campus in Limbe, under the theme, “God is doing a new thing. See, I am doing a new thing. Now it springs up, do you not perceive it? I am making a way in the wilderness and streams in the wasteland”...Isaiah 43:9.
During the official ceremony on Saturday, February 19, the Minister of Secondary Education, Nalova Lyonga said it was not just about 60 years of existence, but also 60 years of creating an impact in the education of the girl-child in Africa and Cameroon in particular.  She said SBC is a symbol of African womanhood and has the best alumni association which has shown others how to build a legacy. She however underscored that government is still expecting a lot from EXSSA in making the institution’s environment more liveable through the “Clean School Campaign” with green environment and standard toilets. Professor Nalova Lyonga also used the occasion to tell the administration of the school that when teachers have problems, such problems cannot be solved through strike, for any problem has a solution which can be achieved through dialogue. The Minister went on to lay the foundation stone for the Ultra-modern Complex to be constructed by EXSSA and also handed the donation of the Prime Minister (an undisclosed amount) for the construction of the complex.
