Violence In North West, South West Regions: Key Leaders Arrested

Following is a press statement issued by the Minister of Communication.

 

The Minister of Communication wishes to inform the national and international community that notwithstanding the ongoing dialogue initiated by the government to seek for appropriate solutions to the claims raised by teachers and lawyers of the North West and South West Regions, some extremists launched calls for ghost town operations as well as other acts of violence and various atrocities against citizens and their properties. They also attacked the forces of law and order as well as vandalized public buildings.

Some of them claim to belong to the “Southern Cameroons National Council’ (SCNC) and to the “Cameroon Anglophone Civil Society Consortium” (CACSC), both organizations operating in absolute breach of the law, and whose nullity has been established by the order of the Minister of Territorial Administration and Decentralisation, which also strictly prohibited their activities.

As part of the judicial inquiry opened to establish responsibilities for the atrocities which caused significant material and human damages, a number of persons, among whom, Mr Fontem Aforteka’a Neba and Nkongho Felix Agbor Balla were arrested and handed over to the judiciary.
