Vaccination : Fourth Campaign Begins Next Month

A press release signed by the Minister of Public Health reveals that a booster dose will also be administered to those who have already completed their vaccination schedule.

Efforts to get more Cameroonians vaccinated against the Covid-19 pandemic continue nationwide. A press release signed by the Minister of Public Health, Manaouda Malachie on February 22, 2022, informs the population that government will be organising from March 16 to 20, 2022, the fourth round of the Covid-19 campaign to intensify vaccination against the virus throughout the national territory.

The campaign is intended to strengthen the current achievements in managing the pandemic globally and nationally. It is an opportunity to further contain the virus's circulation and to favour a return to everyday life. This vaccination campaign will target anyone aged 18 years and above, with a particular interest in persons aged 50 years and above, health personnel, and people with underlying health conditions (diabetes, hypertension, etc.). The main objective is to increase the vaccination coverage against Covid-19 during this period and prevent future case surges or the emergence of a new variant of Covid-19.

One of three vaccines will be offered to the target populations during the campaign. These are Johnson & Johnson (single-dose protocol), Sinopharm, or Pfizer (two-dose protocol). For persons who have already completed their vaccination schedule, booster doses will be administered to them in accordance with the joint recommendations of the Scientific Council for Public Health Emergencies and the National Immunization Technical Advisory Group of January 2022. Vaccination will be offered in health facilities and also through mobile teams in the community: markets, places of worship, chiefdoms, administrative structures, enterprises, and door-to-door visits. In addition to communication through the media, this vaccination campaign will be preceded by sensitization and discussion sessions with the populations.

During the intensified vaccination against Covid-19, the population will be sensitized about the benefits of Covid-19 vaccination, in health facilities, and within the communities. T...
