Decentralization: North West, West Mayors Train On Resource Management

The one-day inter-regional workshop held in Bafoussam on February 18, 2022.

The workshop on decentralization and encouraging better local governance organized by the Ministry of Economy, Planning and Regional Development (MINEPAT), held in Bafoussam in the West Region on February 18,2022. Participants included mayors, project authorities, and divisional and regional delegates from the North West and West Regions involved in the decentralization process.
The objective was to reassert the need to plan national development for medium and long term purposes. By bringing development closer to the needs of the communities and setting in place conditions community people and civil society organizations and NGOs to play a more active role in local development.
Opening the training, Mrs. Mbassa Ayissi Esther, Service Head in charge of Local Development in MINEPAT, said decentralization, which goes with the transfer of competences to local elected authorities, was to enable the local authorities play more active role in pubic local affairs.
Mbassa Ayissi Esther said her ministry has embarked on a nationwide training and mobilization of local elected officials to better use their fiscal resources for well-suited services for their population.
