Douala : Construction of Modern Market in View

Minister of Decentralisation and Local Development was in Douala to advance discussions concerning the project, expected to salvage the ever-growing need for markets in the town.

A modern market is foreseen in Douala's outskirts neighbourhood Logbesssou. Minister of Decentralisation and Local Development, Georges Elanga Obam, who was in Douala to that effect on Friday, February 25, 2022, presided over discussions of a pilot committee for construction of the modern market at the conference hall of the Douala City Council in Bonanjo.
The discussion was held within the ambit of examining the technical, financial and legal aspects of the project that is still in its planning phase. In particular, the committee looked into how funds for the estimated FCFA 29 billion project will be raised, the layout of the market and its environment aspects. As a result, the take-off date for the construction is not yet set.
The Douala modern market will be constructed on 59 hectares of land, comprising three components; a wholesale market, a retail market with 930 sheds and an animal market. Facilities that will be associated to the structure include an open space ...
