North West : Newly Acquired Refined CT Scan Inaugurated

Public Health Minister Manaouda Malachie commissioned the apparatus on February 25, 2022 and also visited other units of the hospital promising to acquire more equipment.

Public Health Minister Dr Manaouda Malachie has inaugurated a newly acquired refined CT scan machine in the Bamenda regional hospital. The event took place on February 25, 2022 in the presence of North Governor Adolphe Lele Lafrique. Many have described this gesture as a dream come true and a great relief to the population of the region as they will not have to travel through bumpy roads with patients to other towns for this services. 
Speaking during the event in Bamenda, the Director of the regional hospital, Dr Nsame Denis said the acquisition of a new CT scan was the best news for the staff and patients in Bamenda and its environs. According to statistics presented, 712 CT scans were conducted in the Centre in 2018.  A year later in 2019, the Centre conducted 556 CT scans, meanwhile in 2020, the number dropped to 31 cases when the breakdown became so serious. In 2021, no scan was carried out in the Centre as all the patients were either referred to Yaounde, Douala, Bafoussam and other institutions in the country. It is worth mentioning that just from January 16, to February 24, 2022 about 211 CT scans have already been carried with the brand new CT scan machine. The Director said   the new machine is more refined than the former. 
Doctor Nsame Denis used the opportunity to present the various units of the hospital. In his presentation he said the hospital has a bed capacity of 400 with a staff strength of 511 made up of both state and temporal staff. He appreciated the Minister for the support to the institution in the area of infrastructure, equipment, personnel and finance to better offer quality healthcare to patients in the region. Amongst the celebrated achievements in the hospital, Doctor Nsame said are eight brand new dialysis machines sent to the regional hospital, the construction of a VIP modern bed isolation Centre, the renovation and upgrading of the intensive care unit and above a the provision of a new CT scan amongst others. He said the infrastructure have greatly improved their medical diagnosis and will reduce their number of references to other cities.
