Cyber Criminality : Stakeholders Brainstorm On Emergency Plan

A sectoral workshop on cyber security in Cameroon took place yesterday, March 3, 2022 in Yaounde.

Cyber security issues are making headlines on the news each day. There is no day without a news report on the leakage of personal data, economic espionage, infection of sensitive computer systems, and propagation of "ransomware" as well as identity theft and fears regarding online bank card payments. The situation is disturbing especially as the country has embarked on a vast programme of development and the digital modernisation of its economy. It is within this backdrop that the Minister of Posts and Telecommunications, Libom Li Likeng Née Mendomo Minette, chaired a sectorial workshop on cyber security in Cameroon yesterday March 3, 2022. The workshop brought together public actors of the Posts, Telecommunications and ICTs sector under the theme, “Cyber security and the responsible use of social media in Cameroon: to global challenge, a global mobilization.”
Participants discussed the fight against cybercrime and cyber delinquency, with the aim of putting in place an emergency plan to tackle the scourge. The Minister of Posts and Telecommunications said the seminar marks a new milestone in government's fight against cyber security and cyber delinquency. “It is about the development and digital sovereignty of Cameroon”, the Minister underlined. 
Given that cyber criminality is now a real threat to the security of computer networks and the safety of citizens, Minette Libom Li Likeng said it was imperative to stop and set roadmap to guide the government's action in the prevention and repression of cybercrime, with the aim of developing the information society and the knowledge economy in the country.
