Enhancing Security Via ICTs : Kenyan Military Learns Cameroon’s Experience

They visited the National Agency for Information and Communication Technologies yesterday, March 14, 2022 to understand the importance of ICT in securing African nations.

A delegation of staff and interns of the 37th batch of the National Defence College of Kenya began a one-week study trip in Cameroon yesterday, March 14, 2022 at the National Agency for Information and Communication Technologies (ANTIC). Heading the Kenya delegation is Brigadier Mwamburi Joakim Ngure from the Kenya Defence Staff College and the First Counsellor of the Kenya High Commission in Abuja-Nigeria, Rosemary Ochieng.
On hand to receive the delegation was the Director General of ANTIC, Prof. Ebot Ebot Enaw. While highlighting the importance of ICT Prof. Ebot Ebot revealed most studies indicate that information and communication technology is a key driver for sustainable and social development of most countries because it has positive effects on economic growth, productivity and employment. He said the government has mobilised significant resources in recent years, despite the difficult economic situation, to develop the sector through the expansion of the national optical fibre network. But the adoption of ICTs is not risk-free since cybercriminals exploit vulnerabilities inherent in information systems to carry out malicious acts, commonly referred to as cybercrimes. Hence the Director General of ANTIC said the meeting gives Cameroon and Kenya a unique opportunity to strengthen cooperation ties to progressively increase access to broadband Internet, issues relating to cyber security and cybercrime all in a bid to protect their citizens, governments and businesses.
