African Olympic Studies: Cameroon To Host Centre

Cameroon has been selected to host the African Centre for Olympic Studies. The revelation was made on Friday January 20, 2017 in Yaounde following an audience granted members of the Executive Bureau of the Association of African Olympic Academies (AANOA) by the Prime Minister, Head of Government, Philemon Yang at the Star Building.
The association’s President who led the delegation to Cameroon, Dr Ridha Layouni told reporters after the meeting with the Prime Minister that their visit was to inform the Prime Minister of the decision by the association to choose Cameroon as host of the centre. Dr Ridha also stated that the attributes of the centre were handed to government. Their discussions with the Prime Minister also enabled them to examine future opportunities and plans of putting in place the centre as soon as possible. The association, he added, alongside Cameroon National Olympics and Sports Committee is working on the status of the centre which will go operational latest March 2018. The delegation was accompanied to the Star Building by the President of the Cameroon National Olympic and Sports Committee, Colonel Hamad Kalkaba Malboum.
The African Centre for Olympic Studies according to one of the Executive Bureau members, Kenyan-born James Mukura (1st Vice President) Olympic is not only about competition but also information dissemination and education. The centre will thus help shape opinions in Olympic movements as people may only assume that when Olympics concerns only Olympic games which comes after four years but Olympic education is continuous.
