South West Region : 44 Cholera Deaths Recorded

Hospitals are overwhelmed with patients receiving treatment in corridors and verandas.

Three administrative units of the South West Region have been hit hard by a cholera outbreak. Bernard Okalia Bilai, South West Governor, has termed it an epidemic. The three affected areas are Ndian, Meme and Fako Divisions. Statistics from South West Regional Delegation for Public Health in Buea showed that there have been 1,906 cases. Bakassi has 345 cases and Ekondo Titi 312 all in Ndian Division.
Then in Meme Division, Mbonge reported eight cases, Kumba N 43 and Kumba S 69. Fako Division is worse hit with 682 cases in Limbe, 326 in Buea and 109 in Tiko. In all 44 deaths have been recorded with 14 in Limbe, 12 in Bakassi, eight in Ekondo Titi, Six in Buea, one in Kumba S and five in Tiko. This statistics were compiled from March 14 to 22, 2022. Among the hospitals where the cholera is being treated are the Buea Regional Hospital, Limbe District Hospital, Tiko District Hospital, Limbe Regional Hospital among others. In Limbe and Tiko, patients have overwhelmed hospital bedding capacities. They are being administer treatment in the corridors and verandas.
