Setting Up A Bitumen Production Plant : Public Works Minister Gives Updates

Emmanuel Nganoun Djoumessi was responding to questions on the situation of the project from Members of the National Assembly on April 1, 2022.

Faced with the exorbitant cost of asphalting roads, the government through a plan to set up a local bitumen production plant which will in the long run not only significantly reduce the cost of road construction, but also the cost of material production, launched a selection process some years back in view of recruiting a company or consortium to that effect. Hon Saya Kaigama Moustapha thus questioned the Minister of Public Works, Emmanuel Nganou Djuoumessi on the situation of the project which his ministry is piloting. 
In his response on April 1, 2022 during a plenary sitting chaired by House Speaker, Cavaye, Yeguie Djibril, the Minister said following the directives of the Prime Minister, a tender requesting the manifestation of interest was launched on September 19, 2019 by the Ministry of Public Works for the selection of an enterprise of a consortium which will be responsible for the manufacture and distribution of bitumen. After deadline of the said tender, the Minister said nine candidacies were analysed by a committee and the results published through a press release issued by the Minister of Public Works on April 16, 2020.
