Eliminating : Cholera Vaccination Ongoing In Buea

The same exercise that was launched on April 8 in the Tiko and Limbe Health District is unfolding.

Mbembe Mbong Vanessa, Chief of Division for Economic, Social and Cultural Affairs at the South West Governor’s Office who sat in for Bernard Okalia Bilai, South West Governor, has launched the 1st Reactive Cholera Vaccination Campaign in Buea. This was on Friday April 8, 2022, at Check Point Buea where she called on the population to open their doors and accept the cholera vaccine so as to kick out the epidemic from Buea for good. Also, she noted that denizens must practice hygiene at all level and urged medical practitioners to multiply their sensitization messages in order to achieve the expected target of the vaccination campaign. The cholera vaccination that started on April 8 shall end on April 12. The launched in Buea was simultaneously done with that of Tiko and Limbe Health Districts. 
Dr. Mathias Ngund, Buea District Medical Officer, explained that cholera started in Buea on January 28, 2022, in Bolifamba (Mile 16) neighbourhood. By April 8, 2022, there were 454 cases registered. Out of this number seven deaths were chronicled, four died in hospitals and three died in the community. He clarified that the response activities started the same day they were notified of the outbreak. The response activities included visit to 31 000 households, 100 educative talks, sensitize about 41 000 people, distributed about 4 000 aqua taps, distribution of 373 posters and disinfection of 63 public places. “These activities have help us to contain the spread of the cholera epidemic in the Buea Health District.
