West Region : Governor, UN Official Discuss Peace, Stability

United Nations Systems Coordinator, Matthias Naab on an official mission to the region met with Governor Awa Fonka Augustine on April 21, 2022.

Ensuring peace and stability in West Region as well as the support for Internally Displaced Persons(IDPs) dominated discussion on April 21, 2022, between, Governor Awa Fonka Augustine, and a delegation of the United Nations headed by the Resident Coordinator of UN Systems in Cameroon, Matthias Naah, who is on an official visit to the region. The UN Resident Coordinator was accompanied in his mission to the West Region by the Resident Representative of UNFPA, Siti, Regional Director of UNESCO, Salah Khaled, Resident Representative of the International Labour Organisation, Aminata Maiga, Resident Representative for UNIDO, Raymond Tavares, Resident Representative for UNICEF, Nadine Perrault and the Resident Representative of the UN clinic in Yaounde, Dr. Almet Secka. 
Receiving the UN delegation in his office, Governor Awa Fonka, thanked the UN team for defending fundamental issues that concern population and development, human rights, and humanitarian assistance to persons especially those affected by social unrest who have fled their regions and are seeking refuge in the West Region.  He regretted the effect of the socio-political crisis in the North West and South West Regions that has pushed thousands of persons into the region.
