Hygiene and Sanitation : Heavy Sanctions Await Defaulters

Authorities of the Yaounde City Council have adopted different sums of money to be paid by those who litter the streets of the capital city.

The fight against poor hygienic conditions in the town of Yaounde is taking another level. Authorities of the Yaounde City Council are moving from sensitising the population against poor hygiene and sanitation acts to ensuring that perpetrators take responsibility for their actions. Henceforth, those caught in poor waste disposal along the streets of Yaounde will be fined. 
The Mayor of the Yaounde City Council, Messi Atangana Luc through a deliberation, adopted by the Council members has set the rates of fines to be paid, by offenders of uncivil acts such as the dumping of garbage, waste water, waste oil and other lubricants, products deemed toxic and construction materials on the street or in places inappropriate within the city of Yaounde. Article one of the deliberation which dates back to August 6, 2021 reveals the different amounts for such offenses, ranging from FCFA 5,000 to 75,000.
The authorities of the council have decided that those caught littering the streets of Yaounde with dirt or involved in other acts of incivility will be fined with FCFA 5,000. Those caught throwing waste water on the road will be charged to pay FC...
