South West : Public Reminded Of Civic Responsibility

Throughout the region, ELECAM is on a special campaign to inscribe 4,000 new voters on the electoral register.

The South West Regional Delegation of Elections Cameroon (ELECAM) headquartered in Buea, is on an extensive voter awareness and education drive throughout the region. The campaign started on June 6, 2022 and is expected to end on June 16, 2022. Mewano Divine, South West ELECAM boss, said it is their responsibility as an elections body to educate the population of their civic responsibility. That one can only take an elected office or be an elector through inscribing their names in the electoral register. That they have realised that political parties come in at the wake of elections and by then it is late for them to really get many more people register on the electoral register. “We register people from January to August and once in a while, we should sensitise the population on their civic responsibility. To ensure that they have their names registered in the electoral register so that they are qualified to participate in any future elections as voters and/or candidates,” he explained.
Through community radios, ELECAM South West is urging the population to visit their 31 Council Branches in all the 31 Subdivisions of the region. They are also stationed in public joints like bus station...
