More Effort to Curb Road Accidents

A truck driving simulator to train truck drivers or perfect their skills has been launched at the Douala seaport.

Road safety in Cameroon continues to be a concern despite efforts by public authorities, private sector actors and civil society in preventing road accidents and their related consequences. "Accidents on our highway is estimated at twenty-four thousand in the last five years. But we don't have the exact number. Even one life is enough to make this investment. The magnitude is relevant; we have to safe every life, for every life actually counts," Bertrand Mbouck, General Manager of a Douala-based company, said in an interview with media immediately after an official launch of a truck driving simulator at the seaport in Douala on Monday, June 13, 2022.
The FCFA 80 million truck driving simulator have been acquired by a synergy of funds from member companies of Safe Way Right Way Foundation. It will help in the training of different drivers on their ability on the road. 
"So far the training that we had from the foundation was theoretical, but now we have the possibility to train drivers in a real life situation without taking any risk because it is a simulation; and to assess the driver's ability as well as the good and bad habits - trying to fix the bad habits so that we can avoid the risks of each driver that is taking track on the road", Patrocle Pedridis, General Manager of another locally based company, told CT...
