Referees : Carine Atezambong Selected As Assistant

She is the only Cameroonian among the 40 match officials chosen for the upcoming Women’s Africa Cup of Nations.


The match officials for the 2022 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) to be staged in Morocco were recently unveiled by the Confederation of African Football (CAF). Carine Fomo Atezambong is the only Cameroonian in this list and was selected among the assistant referees. In all, 40 match officials were chosen. The list comprises of 16 referees, 16 assistant referees and eight Video Assistant Referees (VAR) from 24 countries. According to CAF, all the referees went through a rigorous process and Cameroon’s Atezambong crossed the successful line among other big wigs in the profession like Rwandan Salima Mukansanga, who made history at the 2021 TotalEnergies Africa Cup of Nations by becoming the first woman to referee a match at the competition.
Atezambong has so far recorded her name as one of the most successful Cameroonian female referees of her time, assisting in several national and international matches.
