Unity in Diversity

It is always a pleasure to tell the story of Cameroon’s wrapped history and to reflect on the treasure of its cultural diversity. The reason is simple; in spite of all the differences that exist, the spirit of togetherness continues to reign supreme. Cameroonians have passed through several stages of trying moments, some caused by human factors and others by natural ones; but have always found a way out avoiding situations that can disintegrate the country. This, of course, is the result of the innate zeal to continue to live as a country that has a common history and a common vision. This is what makes Cameroonians a people with a difference. This characteristic is surely a serious asset and many Cameroonians are aware of this and are preserving it with increasing vigour.  The spirit of oneness is what has all along featured in the speeches of the Head of State, President Paul Biya.
Considering the specificities of Cameroon where two foreign languages, English and French have been imposed on it compelling her to enshrine in the constitution in respect of the African component of European expansionist history, and where 450 languages and cultural groups are compelled to share the same territory called Cameroon, the perpetual quest for peaceful cohesion remains key to all and sundries. The urge and feeling of living as a nation with one people has often manifested itself during events in certain fields epitomised by sports. See how the nation stood behind the female Lions during the female Africa Cup of Nations and how they have been expressing solidarity behind the Indomitable Lions in the on-going AFCON competition. In the same vein, how interesting has it been witnessing the weight of moral, material and financial support Cameroonians have been throwing on the military in the fight against the Islamist extremist group, Boko Haram.
Apart from the political gimmicks that sometimes usher in factors that can thwart the peaceful coexistence of Cameroonians, a thing which the Head of State has often condemned with his last energy, the Cameroonian populace have lived and continue to live in harmony.
