Sports And Development : UNDP To Construct Stadiums In Cameroon

A protocol agreement between the charity organistation, the government and the Cameroon Football Federation was signed in Yaounde on Thursday August 4, 2022.

The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) will henceforth contribute in sports development in the country through the project called “Sports for development, social cohesion and peace”. A protocol agreement between the UNDP, the Ministry of Sports and Physical Education and the Cameroon Football Federation (FECAFOOT) was signed in Yaounde on Thursday August 4, 2022. The signing of the protocol agreement equally marked the official launch of the project for the construction of ten stadiums in Cameroon. 
Speaking at the occasion, the Secretary General in the Ministry of Sports and Physical Education, Joseph Yerima said sports and development is in line with government’s policy to develop sports infrastructure in the country. He assured the officials of UNDP that the Ministry of Sports and Physical Education will support to ensure the success of the project. The Resident Representative of UNDP in Cameroon, Jean Luc Salon said funds are already available for the construction of the first two stadiums in Kousseri and Bamenda. He said FCFA 1.5 billion is available for the constructruction of these two stadiums. He called on all actors to canvas for funds to complete the other eight stadiums. The President of FECAFOOT Samuel Eto’o promised that he will make sure that the sports development project initiated by UNDP be successful and sustainable.
