Cameroon-India : Relations Tighter Than Ever

Trade focus, education and peaceful coexistence were highlighted during India’s Independence celebration in Douala.

“India and Cameroon have friendly and cordial relations dating back to the independence of the latter in 1960,” according to a release on the High Commission of India in Cameroon website.
A good number of the over 700 Indians in Douala turned out at the Seamen’s Mission in Akwa for the official celebration of 75 years of India’s Independence on August 15, 2022, overseen by the Indian Honorary Consul in Douala, H.E. J. Ravikumar.
The celebration started with the hoisting of the Indian tricolor flag called the Tiranga by the Honorary Consul and the singing of National Anthems of both countries. This was followed by a speech in which he enumerated the achievements their country has so far made in various sectors and exhorted the Indians to be law abiding. Children delivered poems and their vision of what India will be in 2035 and made rounds of greetings in some of the languages of their country.
India and Cameroon signed a Trade Agreement in February 1968, thus laying the foundations for bilateral trade arrangements. “In 2019-2020, India emerged as the 7th trading partner of Cameroon with two-way trade touching US $ 904.81 million.
