Fight Against Cholera : Campaign Launched

The second phase of the vaccination campaign begins this August 19, 2022.

Cholera is still around the corner and the administration is also multiplying efforts to keep it at bay. A campaign to fight against the disease will begin this Friday, August 19 and the population have been called upon to come out in numbers to get vaccinated. During a press briefing on Wednesday, August 17 in Douala, the Regional surveillance Officer at the Regional Delegation of Public health James Longsi, said the campaign will also involve the search for new cases, sensitization, and door-to-door campaign. He added that the vaccination team will be accompanied by a community mobiliser for identification purposes.
It is on record that from 1 to 8 August 2022, the region has recorded 145 new cases of cholera with three deaths. The evolution of the epidemic as established by health professionals indicates that 90% of cases arrive at the hospital in a severe state. Cholera has been blamed on, among others, the lack of respect of basic hygiene measures, and limited access to drinking water.
