African Interclub Competitions : Coton Sport, PWD Begin Campaign

The 2022-2023 CAF Champions League and Confederation Cup preliminaries will kick-off this weekend.

Coton Sport of Garoua will play the away leg preliminaries of the CAF Champions League and PWD of Bamenda will play the CAF Confederation Cup. In the Champions League Coton Sport will go against Matlama FC of Lesotho at the Free Stadium Bloemfontein in South Africa on Saturday September 10, 2022 at 4:00 p.m. Coton Sport of Garoua is already in South Africa to get used to the environment before tomorrow’s match. The delegation made up of 21 players and nine staff members left the country on Wednesday September 7, 2022 via the Douala International Airport. On arrival the group took up residence at the President Hotel in 1 Union Avenue Naval Hill, Bloemfontein, Free State.
Prior to their departure, Coton Sport of Garoua has been training intensively in their hideout in Garoua in order to meet the challenge. Matlama FC holds ten league titles won in Lesotho and has won the country’s Cup Championship seven times. Matlama have made just three appearances in the CAF Champions League. Their last appearance was in the 2020 preliminary round. They record no appearance in the CAF Confederation Cup. Coton Sport will be representing Cameroon for the second consecutive time in the Champion’s League. They stand a better chance of overpowering Matlama FC to move to the group stage as Coton’s best performance in continental competitions is the quarterfinals in the Cup Winners’ Cup in 1979.
