At Official Funeral: Nation Mourns Clementine Ananga Messina

She was posthumously raised to the dignity of Grand Officer of the Order of Valour by Prime Minister, Head of Government, Joseph Dion Ngute who represented the Head of State.

On Saturday, September 24, 2022, Ananga Messina née Beyene Clementine Antoinette was laid to rest in Zima Village in Obala Subdivision of the Lékie Division of the Centre Region, the land of the ancestors of her husband Pierre Ananga Messina. Indeed, Clementine Ananga Messina was Minister Delegate to the Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development from 2009 until her death on August 5, 2022. The Head of State, President Paul Biya, on August 16, 2022 signed a condolence message addressed to the husband of the departed Minister. The Senior Divisional Officer of the Lékie Division, Simou Kamsu Patrick read the condolence message. The Head of State who in the message described Clementine Ananga Messina as a high State official also said she was a committed militant of the Cameroon People’s Democratic Movement (CPDM). He appreciated the work she did at the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development which culminated in her promotion to the post of Minister Delegate to the Minister of Agriculture. The wreath of the presidential couple was also conspicuously present. In recognition of her services to the nation, President Paul Biya further decided that an Official funeral be organised in her honour. He then designated Prime Minister, Head of Government, Chief Dr Joseph Dion Ngute as his personal representative. In this connection therefore, every ritual that goes with official funerals was scrupulously respected. Present for military honours were detachments of the Land force, Navy, Air force, National Gendarmerie and Police. The Military Band animated the occasion that was commanded by Colonel Foumane Ndongo Thierry, Second in Command at the Headquarters Brigade.

After the arrival of the representative of the Head of State, elements of the Police processed with the casket covered with the Cameroon flag bearing the mortal remains of Clementine Ananga Messina from the family residence to ceremonial ground. The Prime Minister in the presence of senior State dignitaries and thousands of mourners that filled the place left his seat, came and bowed in front of the coffin. This prelude to the solemn part of the occasion was followed by a religious service, presided at by Bishop Damase Zinga Atangana of the Kribi Diocese, accompanied by the Emeritus Bishop Adalbert Ndzana of the Mbalmayo Diocese.
