CAN 2017: Gabon Hailed For Successful Organisation

The Organising Committee of the Africa Cup of Nations Gabon 2017 has expressed satisfaction with the efforts put in place by the local organising committee.

The 31st edition of the Total Africa Cup of Nation Gabon 2017 has come and gone. At the end of the continental soccer event the souvenir many visitors went back home with is the successful organisation of the competition.
As far as the general organisation is concerned Gabon was able to meet its commitments in the different domains. Gabon was designated to host the tournament in April 2015, thus having only one year seven months to prepare whereas it needed at least two years to prepare. Since then the local organising committee began work in all the different sectors notably transport, lodging and heath, among others. Talking about health, the Local Organising Committee, COCAN, put in place the services of the lone Mobile Medical Centre in the world to ensure health security of players especially, an innovation for the competition. Apart from that there were four health units in the stadium for supporters and other people. As for transportation much effort was made to facilitate movement of actors and spectators by air, road, rail and sea to the different competition venues. The hotel management and tourism sector was equally revived to provide lodging facilities for visitors.
Concerning infrastructure, two modern stadiums were constructed in less than two years and the other two existing stadiums renovated. Also roads linking the annex stadium at Libreville stadium were equally rehabilitated.
The organising committee provided a modern press centre with limited free of charge wireless Internet to facilitate work for journalists and also free food offered on match days. Another aspect worthy of note as far as organisation of AFCON 2017 is concerned is the high level of security. On match days security was reinforced in the different stadiums with match officials on their toes to ensure stadium security for all teams, CAF officials, volunteers and supporters.
In all observers described the efforts of the Organising Committee of the Africa Cup of Nations Gabon 2017 as satisfactory. Many believe Gabon learnt from their first experience in 2012 when they co- hosted the competition with neighbouring Equatorial Guinea. Through its successful organisation Gabon has been chosen to host the Under 17 Africa Cup of Nations in May 2017.

L'entraîneur a d&eacut...
