Decade of Voluntarism : Ecowalk Kick-Starts Activities

The Minister of Youth Affairs and Civic Education over the weekend headed a caravan of youth in a walk through the streets of Yaounde.

Activities to commemorate the 37th edition of the International Volunteer Day began on Saturday November 27, 2022 with an ecological walk through some streets in Yaounde. Heading the caravan was the Minister of Youth Affairs and Civic Education, Mounouna Foutsou, who said the country, was launching the 2022 Decade of Volunteering under the theme; “Together, Let’s Act Now.”
Mounouna Foutsou and a host of young people began the walk from the esplanade of the Yaounde II Sub division passing through various main roads in the locality, picking dirt along their way. The Minister said that in prelude to the International Volunteer Day, to be commemorated on December 5, they are out to sensitise the population on the importance of voluntarism which is a necessity for the development of any community. He explained that his Ministry was out to encourage youths on proximity voluntarism especially in the domain of hygiene and sanitation. That is why during the march, each participant carried out a citizenship act of picking dirt on the streets of Yaounde. “We are out to educate Cameroonians on the habit of cleaning and protecting their environment as required by the Head of State,” Mounouna Foutsou noted.
