Group F : Morocco Advance As Group Winners

A 2-1 victory over Canada last night ensured smooth progress into the knockout stages for the Atlas Lions.

Morocco became the second African side to reach the knockout stages of the 2022 FIFA World Cup after a 2-1 victory over Canada at the Al Thumama Stadium helped them finish as winners of Group F. First half goals from Hakimk Ziyech (4’) and Youssef En-Neysri (23’) did the job for Morocco as they held off any fight back from Canada who were already eliminated from the tournament going into the last group game.
The Atlas Lions deserved all three points in a game they took by the scruff of the neck as Hakim Ziyech pounced on an error by the Canadian goalkeeper, Milan Borjan to give his side the lead four minutes into the game. Morocco doubled through Youssef En-Neysri (23’) after a delightful ball between the channels from Achraf Hakimi played him through as he outpaced the Canadian defence to finish past Milan Borjan.
