Mental Health : MPs Advocate More Care

Within the framework of promoting a healthy population, members of the Parliamentary Network for the Fight Against Malaria, led by Hon. Bekono Ebah Pauline epse Ndoumou was at the Jamot Hospital in Yaounde on December 3, 2022 to provide support to those receiving medical care as a result of mental issues. The action is in line with activities commemorating the International Day of Persons with Disabilities, observed every December 3. They offered material support of health and sanitary utensils. The materials were received on behalf of the Director of the hospital by the Head of Department for Psychiatric, Dr Laure Menguene. 
Hon. Bekono Ebah Pauline epse Ndoumou said they were at the health facility to offer moral and material support to brothers and sisters who find themselves there for health reasons. “Statistics from the world agency on mental health in 2020 reveal that pathology linked to mental health touches more than two out of ten people, thus about five million of the twenty-five million Cameroonians.  This figures call on us to increase our solidarity and involvement with issues related to mental health. Advocacy for the putting in place of a legal framework on the health care of mental patients is necessary,” she stated.
