Fight Against Corruption : CONAC Evaluates “Corruption Clinic” Initiative

This was at the end of a four-day campaign to take the services of the institution closer to the people.

The National Anti-Corruption Commission, CONAC on Thursday, December 8, 2022, gave a balance sheet of the “Corruption Clinic” that went operational in Douala last Monday December 5th. The report indicated that for four days, CONAC received 365 complaints from different sectors including both public and private. In effect, 40 through telephone free toll 1517 line, 125 through its Whatsapp number 658262682, 180 via email and 20 directly through the temporal office. Out of these number 147 were investigated leading to tangible results.
While presenting the report to the press in Douala, the Chairman of CONAC Rev. Dr Dieudonné Massi Gams revealed that their investigations led to the arrest and detention of some persons who were involved in corrupt practices including the issuance of fake driving licenses, impersonation, defamation, embezzlement, thievery, double dealing and a lot more.
He thanked the population who showed up but regretted that there was still a sense of fear in the population as so many people were afraid to denounce corrupt cases due to the fear of victimization. He added that they received a good number of complaints from anonymous sources. He assured the population of the protection of those who denounce corrupt cases, which he went on, is a requirement for CONAC.
