FIFA Technical Study Group : Improvements In African, Asian Teams

During a press briefing in Doha last Monday, the study group noted a number of other technical improvements at the 2022 FIFA World Cup compared to previous editions.


African and Asian teams have been among the most improved at the 2022 FIFA World Cup tournament, a FIFA Technical Study Group, TSG has found. The study group put in place at the start of the tournament to analyse several aspects of the tournament presented its first report during a press briefing last Monday, December 12 at the Virtual Stadium of the Qatar National Convention Centre in Doha.
According to Sunday Oliseh, member of the TSG and former Nigeria international, African teams have shown they can be a cut above when they decide to be on their game. No African team left the tournament without a victory, a marked improvement in their performances from previous tournaments. To crown it all, the performance of semi-finalist, Morocco is no fluke but a result of years of work at various levels. “Morocco has been the best side that has animated the low defensive block in the tournament. There has been sacrifices from the whole team. When they go in defensive mode, they are fixed with triangles everywhere, making it difficult for opponents to break them through,” Oliseh said.
