“The Evolution of Works on the Field is Very Satisfactory”

Ngwaimbi Paul Ayeah, North West Regional Delegate for Public Works.

Mr Regional Delegate, how would you evaluate the evolution of the Babadjou-Bamenda road project?
The rehabilitation of the Babadjou-Bamenda stretch of road is quite good and I can even say excellent. Following the new strategies that were put in place by the Minister of Public Works, today the evolution of works on the field is very satisfactory. I can say that we are happy seeing all the ongoing works on the field by the contractors.
You made arrangements for the urban crossing of Bamenda which was already seriously degraded. How is work progressing therein?
The team from the Ministry of Public Works and of the Regional Delegation of Public Works is quite mobilised. We are treating critical points on the urban section that is from the Ecole des Champions round the town. The works are progressing and we can indicate that before the end of this year, we are going to complete our works of the treatment of critical points.
The deplorable state of the urban section of the Babadjou-Bamenda was made known by the services that we represent to the Minister of Public Works  and he instructed and allocated funds for maintenance works of the urban section through direct labour. The solution that was taken at that time by the Minister was to treat all the critical points around town. Since November 18, the team of the Regional Delegation under my supervision is on the field and we have done the preparation of the surfaces and since December 18, we started with the priming of the double surface layer dressing between Ngeng Junction and Vertinary Junction and our works are ongoing. The population of Bamenda is satisfied with what we are doing. Basically, works are ongoing on all the four lots from Babadjou to Bamenda to satisfy the population and to make it possible for economic operators ply good roads to go about their economic activities.

Are there any specific challenges that disturb the project execution? What is being done to surmount them so as to give the project the much-needed celerity?
As of now, I think things are moving smoothly. We have not yet identified a specific challenge or disturbance for the execution of works. I know that with the new formula that was put in place, we have all the assistance of the forces of law and order security-wise.

You are certainly not unaware of the pain the slow execution of this project has ...
