Elections Cameroon : Institution Rolls Out 2023 Action Plan

Strengthening democracy and electoral awareness nationwide feature among top priorities.

Members of the Electoral Board of Elections Cameroon (ELECAM) in their fourth and last ordinary session for 2022 which held yesterday December 22, 2022 have examined and adopted the plan of action of the institution for 2023. The session was presided at by the Chairperson of the Board, Dr Enow Abrams Egbe. Deliberations focused on reviewing and approving the 2023 action plan of the Directorate General of Elections as well as that of the Electoral Board, inspired from the financial allocation adopted in Parliament during the November session. 
In his opening statement, the Chairperson said the session is dedicated to the examination of their budget for the 2023 financial year (FCFA 12 billion, 183 million); resources which will be used in achieving objectives earmarked in the action plan of the year. Activities he said, will revolve around continuing to inspire public confidence in the electoral system, strengthen the democratic process and improve electoral awareness nationwide. With Senatorial elections expected to the organised next year, the financial allocation will see to the smooth and credible organisation of the political process across the ten regions of the country. Enow Abrams Egbe added that it is imperative for the money to be used in addressing major difficulties encountered by the institution in 2022, notably; the very average functioning of commissions charged with the revision of electoral registers and distribution of voters’ cards, high cost of maintaining biometric equipment and heavy financial charges for renting regional offices.
