Innovative Projects : Youths Inspiring Hope

Many young people in the country have come up with entrepreneurial projects; making them independent as well as employers in the society.

The Cameroonian labour market is today saturated with qualified youths who are churned out annually from various universities and professional training institutions in the country. With the youth constituting the bulk of the country’s population (about 60 per cent according to World Fact book) securing a job in Cameroon is challenging. Being a predominantly primary economy, the Public Service so far has remained the major employer in Cameroon. With the difficulty in getting white collar jobs in the public service, private and public corporations, more and more youths are now carving out their niche and creating their own employment. Nowadays, upon completion from a university or professional training institution, many young people do not spend time writing competitive examinations into the Public Service. They are making proper use of their youthful exuberance by coming up with ground-breaking entrepreneurial projects. This has created not only many Chief Executive Officers (CEO’s), but also employers. The advent of Information and Communication Technologies (ICTs) has also facilitated job creation with many more youths now diverting to digital economy where there are several job openings.
