Anxiety Mounts on President’s Message

Youths have their ears on the ground to hear what the Head of State tells them this evening on the eve of the 51st National Youth Day.

Youths from all the four corners of Cameroon will focus particular attention on the Head of State this evening in a hope to have possible solutions to challenges they face in conveniently being “the leaders of tomorrow”. The President addresses them this Friday evening on the eve of the 51st National Youth Day placed on the theme, “Youth and the Challenges of Building an Exemplary, Indivisible, Strong and Emergent Nation”.
The theme of the commemoration coupled with the economic and socio-political environment of the country now arouses much anxiety on what President Paul Biya could tell the youths. Youth unemployment remains preoccupying and youths of school-going age are not in schools in some parts of the country owing to complex strike actions. What the Head of State tells them on these and other boiling youth and national issues will be highly awaited this evening.   
Like in previous speeches, this evening’s traditional youth day message would certainly be an occasion for the country’s first citizen to draw a balance sheet of what government has been doing to better the livelihoods of his young compatriots and obviously prospects for the short, medium and long terms.
Taking a cursory look at what President Paul Biya said on February 10, 2016 and what is done on the ground, there may be reasons to hope for brighter skies for the youths. For instance, the FCFA 102 billion special three-year youth programme announced last year has been launched. Its key objective is to enhance civic education, social and economic integration of young Cameroonians.
