Birth Certificate : Yaounde V Council Launches Survey

Through a communiqué, the Mayor of the jurisdiction is calling on parents to register children from 0 to 12 years without the Civil Status document.

The Mayor of the Yaounde V Council, Augustin Bala is calling on the entire population of his jurisdiction to register all children between 0-12 years who do not have a birth certificate. This is found in a communiqué signed by the Mayor on January 5, 2023. The survey which ends on January 13, 2023 at 3:30 p.m, is aimed at issuing birth certificates to children who do not have one.
Talking to Cameroon Tribune, Augustin Bala says he is counting on parents to come and register their children at the Department of Education, Youth and Sports of the Council, for it is important for all children to obtain the official document which does not only record their live birth, but also identify them by name, place and date of birth and percentage. The Mayor said it is vital for the Council to organise such a survey because they are the first social partners to the population and there is need for them to know their major preoccupations. He explained that the lack of birth certificates is a growing problem in the Subdivision and is creating a lot of problems for the children and their families. 
The Mayor lamented that many children are not able to go to school because they do not have a birth certificate. Others are not able to benefit from social projects within the community because they do not have a birth certificate.
