Intermediate Lions : Hopes Remain High

The recent performance of Cameroon gives positive signals on the country’s chances to break records and reach the final but for minor drawbacks which might make the task tough.


The Intermediate Lions of Cameroon at their fifth participation in the African Nations Championship should have as prior objective of reaching the final in Algeria; a stage that they have never arrived in the history of their previous outings. Crossing the three-nation Group E (Cameroon, Congo and Niger) with just one qualifying ticket may not be a daunting task. It is progressing past the quarterfinals and attaining the objective of bettering their semi-finals qualification obtained in the last edition at home that may look challenging but surmountable at least.  
The performance of the team in their recent friendlies in Tunisia tells of the efficiency of their build-up towards the competition. It indicated that Cameroon has value in its midfield principally handled by the likes of Mbah, Kaiba, Ngom and Beo Bato. These players have shown that they have the skills of steaming offensive moves and creating danger in the opposite side. Jerome Ngom, that gave the assist to Aboubakar Vincent at Cameroon’s 2022 World Cup group game against Brazil will be the centre of attraction and may be over marked. But fans are trusting the individual qualities of the player as well as the tact of Head Coach Alioum Saidou to find a solution perhaps in his positioning. However, this compartment will have to suffer the absence of former Coton Sport’s midfielder, Felix Oukine who recently left the local league for greener pastures.
