North West : ELECAM Ready For Senatorial Election

The declaration was made by the Regional Delegate during the launch of the revision of the voters list in the region presided at by the Electoral Board Chairperson.

The North West Regional Delegate of Elections Cameroon (ELECAM), Zofoa Njoya has disclosed that they are ready for Senatorial elections as the revision of the voters list began since January 1, 2023. The Regional Delegate was speaking during the launch of the revision exercise on January 13, 2023 presided at by the ELECAM Electoral Board Chair, Enow Abrams Egbe. “The region is up to the task and just waiting for electors to be called to the polls’, he said a few hours before the Presidential decree convening electors to the polls on March 12,2023 for Senatorial elections.  He said after necessary modifications, they have identified some 1, 133 Councillors who are going to take part in the Senatorial elections.  He said they already began the registration exercise in the region and target registering 13, 500   new voters as compared to 10, 473 last year.  He disclosed that they have so far registered 1, 019 new electors.
In response to concerns about security as an impediment to voter registration during an exchange with stakeholders at the launch, the Electoral Board Chair of ELECAM promised to provide security corridors for local mixed commissions comprising both ELECAM staff and stakeholders alike who will henceforth work on the basis of a platform. “I can assure them in collaboration with our field collaborators, we will provide them corridors of security that can permit potential electors to come and register freely’, he said.
