Senatorial Elections : Effervescence Heightens In Political Parties

Following the convening of the electorate to the polls on March 12, 2023, preparations have gained steam in political parties interested in participating in the election.

Political parties who have the intention of participating in the Senatorial elections of March 12, 2023 have stepped up preparation mechanisms to ensure they win as many seats as possible in the law-making House. Meetings are being held within various parties to strategise on their active participation. The ruling Cameroon People’s Democratic Movement (CPDM) having won 63 out of the 70 seats during the March 2018 Senatorial election, is working at keeping the record and remain the political party with the highest number of seats in the Senate. Meetings will be held in the days ahead to conclude on the various lists for the different regions. With no release having been made public by the CPDM yet, it is obvious the party will be participating in all ten regions of the country.  Meantime, without any formal meeting in any of the political parties since the convening of the electorate, phone calls have been put across and political conversations are in-depth. 
The Social Democratic Front which won seven seats in the last election in the North West Region will equally be participating in the March 12, 2023 elections. In the course of the party’s last National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting which held in Yaounde on December 10, 2023 and presided at by the party’s National Chairman, John Fru Ndi, their participation in the elections was partly discussed. It was agreed that those who are interested in competing in the polls should make their candidatures known and begin with the necessary preparations. Another meeting was scheduled to aptly discuss their participating in the election. With the President of the Republic having convened the electorate and the date and time of polls well known, the SDF will have to get into conclave in the days ahead to map out their strategies. The opposition party will definitely be working at winning more seats in the Senate.
