After Convening The Electorate : ELECAM Fully Drawn For Efficiency

The elections management body has a series of steps to follow till voting date scheduled for March 12, 2023.

As preparations heighten in political parties ahead of the Senatorial election, so is the same effervescence at Elections Cameroon (ELECAM), the institution responsible for the organisation, management and supervision of all election operations.  As a result, the institution, by law, has the duty of providing updated electoral registers to the electorate, registration cards, polling stations information, manage elections operations and participate in the counting of votes after the close of the polls at 6pm. Officials of ELECAM are therefore putting hands on deck to ensure that every material and equipment needed in the electoral process is rightly available for the senatorial election. 
According to Section 223 of the Electoral Code, a list of senatorial electors comprising regional and municipal councillors shall be drawn up and updated by the regional branch of Elections Cameroon in each region. “On publication of the decree convening the Electoral College, the list of senatorial electors shall be updated and published at least 30 days before the voting date. It may be copied or notified to any person on request,” stipulates Section 224 of the aforementioned Code. This implies that ELECAM would have to publish its updated lists across the ten regions by February 10, 2023. 
Given that the Senatorial elections is by indirect universal suffrage, the electorate use registration cards and not voters’ cards to cast their votes.
