Women’s World Cup Intercontinental Playoffs : Lionesses Progressively Acquire Skills

After a first test match on January 20, shortlisted players began the second week of preparation on Monday. Meanwhile, yet-to-be called int’ls continue to progress at club level.

Monday January 23, 2023 made exactly one week since the Lionesses of Cameroon opened up a training camp at the CAF Excellence Centre in Mbankomo ahead of the 2023 Women’s World Cup International playoffs next month. To evaluate the path covered since the beginning of the training on January 16, 2023, the team had a first test match against the cadets of Apejes of Mfou on Friday January 20, 2023 which ended 3-2 in favour of the cadets. This was in the absence of Goalkeeper Bawou Ange perhaps because she was still busy with club duties. She has been replaced by Liliane Choumba of Authentic Ladies. The week ended with recuperation to prepare the physique of the girls for the challenges ahead. What is evident is that Head Coach Gabriel Zabo will be using the lapses he saw during the friendly to animate this second week of preparation. Two training sessions were programmed yesterday January 23, 2023; a programme which tells of how the new week will be intense pending the challenge ahead.
As the shortlisted players brace up at home, other Cameroonian players plying their trade abroad are progressing at club level. Her side won the opponents 6-1 putting the Lioness on a shining start. The same positive energy holds for goalkeeper Pauline Ayangma who recently kept a clean sheet in Konak BelediyeSpor overwhelming 12-0 win over Kirecburna in the Turkish Super League.
