Peace, Security : Youths Discuss Involvement

An inter-generational dialogue ended yesterday in Yaounde and fell within commemorative activities to mark the 57th edition of the National Youth Day.

An Inter-generational dialogue for the promotion of the youth, peace and security agenda in the country ended yesterday February 8, 2023 in Yaounde. Discussions began on Tuesday February 7 and focused on educating young leaders on peace and security issues in order to instil and boost youth participation in government efforts to maintain sustainable peace in the community. 
The inter-generational dialogue grouped the 10 regional presidents of the Cameroon National Youth Council, civil society leaders and members of the Youth, Peace and Security Commission. Present during discussions was the UNFPA Resident Representative, Dr Justine Koffi and the special guest to the Minister of Youth Affairs and Civic Education, Saji Prelis, from the Search Common Ground NGO who is also the Co-Chair of the Global Coalition on Youth, Peace and Security. Saji Prelis said it was an opportunity to laud young people who are doing great work to achieve peace in the country. Most at times Prelis said young people feel excluded as their voices are not heard. Meanwhile, they are sacrificing a lot to ensure development in their country. The gathering therefore permitted young leaders to speak and make their works known. Saji Prelis also said young people are not alone while reiterating that the government is creating national strategies to recognise them as partners in peace and security efforts and not just beneficiaries or trouble makers.
