National Weightlifting Championship : New Season Opens In Yaounde

Some 60 athletes participated at the kick off of the competition at the Mfandena Gymnasium in Yaounde on Saturday, February 18, 2023.

The Mfandena Gymnasium in Yaounde was the venue of the launch of the 2022-2023 weightlifting in Cameroon on Saturday February 18, 2023. Organised by the Cameroon Weightlifting Federation (FECAHALT), the competition brought together 60 athletes from clubs across the country. What was particular in this year’s opening of season was the presence of both local and foreign-based athletes who are preparing for upcoming international competitions notably the African zone qualifiers for the World Cup that will take place in Tunisia in the months ahead.  The athletes displayed rich talents in the junior, senior men’s and women’s categories. 
In the senior women’s category, Eyenga Mbo’ossi from Dalton Weightlifting Club was the first scoring 95 points in the snatch and 120 in the clean and jerk making a total of 215 points. She was followed by Djifack Paissa (Dalton) 182 and Hyeng Manuela (HAC) 150 points. In the men’s category, Onana Tanga was the strongest followed by Ngadja Junior and Abeussa. In the junior men’s categories, Matam Sandje was the first followed by Wembe Yade and Mfopouh Njipouh. In the junior women’s category Paga Anne was the first. Awa Kaddy was second and Lethieu Elvira was third.  One of the athletes Nzimo Phalone Letitia, from Egypt said she was satisfied with the competition and that everything went on well.
