Barrister Buokejung Nsen Abeng : Passionate About Women’s Right, Dev’t

As the Director of the National Civil Society Organisation (CIVITAS, Cameroon), she greatly advocates and empowers women and girls to know their rights and assert themselves.

Barrister Nsen Abeng is a household name when it comes to issues affecting the rights of women and girls in Cameroon. As a licensed attorney, expert in Human Rights and Humanitarian Actions, Nsen Abeng, has taken her vast practical experience in international law, international humanitarian law amongst others to paying more specific emphasis on gender equality, gender empowerment and justice for women and girls in all its ramifications. 
With over 10 years of legal work and advocacy on Gender-Based Violence, legal literacy for women and girls, economic empowerment of women and girls, Barrister Abeng says she is more than ever passionate about what she is doing each day of her life. She grew up seeing the pain women go through because of the patriarchy system, biases and stereotype in the name of tradition. 
Coming from a village in which matrilineal succession is a tradition that must be respected, causing marginalisation for women, Abeng took the decision to fight against customs which are repugnant to natural justice, equity, and good consciences by breaching the gap through the empowerment of women to know their human rights.
