Commonwealth Day 2023 : Cameroon Celebrates Strides, Prospects

Commemorative activities were organised at the Ministry of External Relations on March 13, 2023.

The 2023 edition of the Commonwealth Day has been commemorated in Cameroon under the theme, “Forging a Sustainable and Peaceful Common Future,” in the presence of government officials, High Commissioners and Consuls of Commonwealth member countries and other stakeholders. 
In his commemorative speech, Minister Mbayu said Cameroon was celebrating strengths, network and unity in the Organisation which it joined in 1995. “This year’s theme offers us the opportunity to meet and reflect on addressing the burning challenges of our time with aligning with Commonwealth core values and principles. He added that the theme captures the unique challenges the world is facing, refreshes its advocacy for youths and compels member countries to mobilise resources at tackling the challenges. The Minister highlighted measures and resolutions taken by the government of Cameroon in ensuring peace, youthful empowerment and the protection of the environment, as highlighted by this years’ theme of the Commonwealth. “It enables us to delve into the actions of peace, something that is very important to Cameroon. Cameroon, a haven of peace has not been spared of violent attacks, reason the government is on an irreversible part of reconstructing the North West, South West and Far North Regions,” Minister Mbayu stated. The Minister Delegate noted that the Head of State has always opted for dialogue as a path to lasting peace and thus instructed the organisation of the Major National Dialogue in Cameroon which held in 2019.
