Better World : Inclusive Education Programme Launched

This was yesterday during a ceremony that brought together stakeholders from all the 8 regions of Cameroon where the programme will be implemented.

People Living with Disabilities (PLWD) are sometimes discriminated and most often are unable to attain their full potential due to limited opportunities. As a result, Sight Savers, an international non-governmental organisation, has launched a programme “A Better World” which will go a long way to ensure that PLWD are included in all spheres of life. The programme that will be implemented in 8 regions of Cameroon including, Far North, North, Adamawa, Centre, Littoral, South, East and West Regions was launched in Douala on March 21, 2023.
The “A Better World” programme financed by the Irish Aid, covers two thematics including Inclusive Education and Citizenship and Political Participation, as well as scaling up inclusive education for boys and girls through strengthening systems.  The direct beneficiaries of the project will include children, women and youths with disabilities.
While launching the programme in Douala, the Director of Sight Savers Cameroon Marguerite Belobo Belibi explained that the programme will ensure that Cameroon’s education system witnessed an increased capacity to provide sustainable inclusive education of good quality for children with disability. She said the programme will be implemented within 5 years with the involvement of local state actors who will all work towards ensuring that people with disabilities partake in the political life of Cameroon.
