North West Public Independent Conciliator : 77 Complaints Received So Far

This was the major outcome of a press conference to present the balance sheet of activities of the institution on March 21, 2023 in Bamenda.

According to the Public Independent Conciliator for the North West Region, Tamfu Simon Fai, the institution has so far received and treated 77 complaints since its inception, 30 in 2021, 44 in 20222 and 03 already in 2023. Speaking in a press conference in Bamenda yesterday to present the balance sheet of the institution for 2022, Tamfu Simon said some of the complaints are in line with their duties whereas others are outside their competence. While they pry into complaints within their domain of competence, the others are referred to the competent institutions and a feedback demanded on how the issue is resolved. Among its achievements, the Public Independent Conciliator says they have put an end to the payment of money for the establishment of birth, marriage or death certificates and contributed in solving a 20-year-old problem in the Ndop council between the workers over unpaid claims.
He said his institution was on a sensitization drive and that repression would come only after this sensitization phase which has seen them visit some 18 councils and carried media campaigns on the role and missions of the PIC as a pacificator, watchdog and advocate, He disclosed that PIC carried out a survey which revealed that most councils are managed as a one-man business and that the devolutions of powers is slow and accompanied by the necessary resources. Also, Regional and council services are plagued with ethical lapses marked by little transparency and accountability. The survey also highlighted the need for community participation in council activities and timely disbursement of subventions to councils to enable them carry out their development plans.
