The South West Gendarmerie Legion now has a new leader. He is Colonel Kola. He took over from Colonel Tchinda Mbouzikeu Herin who had been at the helm of South West Gendarmerie Legion since February 2018. The installation ceremony unfolded at Bongo Square Buea on March 29, 2023, chaired by the Commander of the 2nd Gendarmerie Region, Brigadier General Ekongwese Divine Nnoko, on behalf of the Secretary of State in the Ministry of Defence in charge of the National Gendarmerie. In attendance were the Commander of the 2nd Joint Military Region, Brigadier General Eba Eba Bede Benoit, South West Governor, Bernard Okalia Bilai and other military officers.
Brigadier General Ekongwese tasked Colonel Kola to inculcate discipline into his men while stimulating a healthy relation among them. He urged the new commander to collaborate with administrative, religious, traditional and political authorities as well as components of defence and security forces without forgetting the local population who are those to help him succeed in his mission.
