National Episcopal Conference : Bishops Denounce Senseless Killings

The call was made in Yaounde yesterday, April 18, 2023 at the official opening of the 48th plenary assembly of the Bishops of Cameroon.

The President of the National Episcopal Conference of Cameroon, the Archbishop of Ba- - menda, Andrew Nkea, has made an appeal to all Cameroonians to stop killing one another. He was speaking at the opening session of the 48th plenary assembly of the Bishops of Cameroon yesterday April 18, 2023 in Yaounde. The conference, which ends on April 22, was marked during the opening ceremony by a thanksgiving Mass in the Basilica, on the occasion of the anniversary of the Election of Pope Francis. His Grace Andrew Nkea said bishops of Cameroon are saddened by the various extra-judicial killings that have been taking place in society, top among which was the murder of the Journalist, Martinez Zogo. The Archbishop said bishops of Cameroon together with the universal Catholic Church have always called on all people to respect human life, which is a gift from God from the moment of conception to its natural death. According to the prelate, to kill someone is a sin against the fifth commandment of the Decalogue which says: “Thou shall not kill.” The Archbishop underscored; “We are all brothers and sisters of the same fatherland, and children of the same God who is Father to us all, it is only with such mentality, that we shall live in peace and harmony.” While opening the working session, His Grace Andrew Nkea noted with satisfaction that the socio-political situation in the North West and South West Regions has greatly improved.
