MTN Elite Two : Victoria United’s Journey To Elite One

From being South West Regional Champions, to runners up of the Interpools and now the first candidate to be promoted to the first division this season, the club is full of ambition.

After about 10 years in the cold, the South West Region will boast of a club in the first division next season. This is after Limbe-based Victoria United fondly called, One People, One Power (OPOPO) booked their place in the top tier championship following their 2-0 victory over Aigle of Moungo on match day 24 of the ongoing MTN Elite Two Championship. After the victory on April 19, 2023, the club moved to 43 points, seven ahead of second-placed AS Lausanne (36 points) and nine above third-placed Dynamo of Douala (34 points). This means that, even if AS Lausanne and Dynamo win their remaining two matches, they cannot catch up Victoria United. In the course of the championship, the club that joined the Elite Two just this season, swept almost every team on its way; recording the highest number of victories this far (13). They have drawn four matches and lost six. This impressive show started since when they finished champions of the South West Regional League, runners up of the Interpools and now the first candidate to progress to the Elite One after just one season in the Elite Two. If OPOPO is sure of progressing to the Elite One, the remaining one spot is still very vacant and will be determined in the last two days of the championship.
