Some Faces To Remember

Several athletes marvelled spectators with their performances during the just-ended Games in Ngaoundere.

The 2023 University Games just like the previous editions permitted athletes to demonstrate their talents. Several athletes distinguished themselves in the just-ended 23rd edition thanks to their performances and their faces will be remembered as those who stood their grounds against all odds. The King of the Games in Olympic sports, Désiré Kengne Fosso, of the University of Yaounde II has written his name in the golden books. He was given this title for clinching three gold medals in athletics. In the men’s javelin, the athlete born in 2001, finished first realising a performance of 51.90. He again impressed in shot put where he clinched gold with a performance of 13.86. In discus throw, the athlete still won gold with a performance of 41.13.
The two Queens of the Games in Olympic sports, Edith Abona and Marianne Hilary Ndjike are equally athletes to watch out for. Edith Abona of the University of Yaounde I was given the title of Queen of the Games for winning four gold medals in the women’s javelin, discus throw, shot put and 4x400m relay. In women’s javelin for example, Edith Abona finished first with a performance of 34.41. In the women’s shot put, Abona was first again with a performance of 12.25. In the women’s discus throw, the athlete realised a performance of 31.56 to end up in gold. The other Queen of the Games, Marianne Hilary Ndjike who won four gold medals in table tennis is another athlete to watch out for.
