2023 University Games : Acceptable Comeback

After three years of absence, the 23rd edition which ended on May 6, 2023 in Ngaoundere lived up to expectations despite minor lapses.

The 2023 University Games hosted by the University of Ngaoundere which began on April 29, 2023 and closed on May 6, 2023 was a real platform for the over 3,000 athletes who participated in the event to demonstrate their talents. The Games were coming back after three years of absence due to the Covid-19 pandemic. Reason why, right from the beginning, the athletes from some 22 higher institutions of learning showed a lot enthusiasm and desire to clinch as many medals as possible.
At a time when we draw up a balance sheet, one has the impression that the eight-daylong event opened and closed by the Minister of State, Minister of Higher Education, Professor Jacques Fame Ndongo lived up to expectations despite minor lapses. The different fan clubs did not fail to fulfil their mission of animation and galvanization but were as well vectors of culture promotion and educative messages. As for the competition proper, several athletes distinguished themselves with their eloquent performances. The 23rd edition further proved that the University Games is a breadbasket of talents that if properly followed up; will be very useful to the country both nationally and internationally.
The University of Yaounde I that finished first on the Olympic medal table showed proof of steadfastness winning several gold medals all through their participation. For the Paralympics, the University of Douala can only look back and be proud of their parcours. Even the novices, bravely took their first steps and hope to improve as they participate in more games.
Generally, the organization was acceptable despite slight hitches recorded especially at the level of lodging. But as the saying goes, no human endeavor is perfect. Ma...
